You will be picked up from your hotel in Marrakech around 8:00 am. Our driver will take you to Imlil (1740m), a Berber village located about 65 km south from Marrakech, where from our trek will start.
North Africa’s highest mountain, the ascent of Jebel Toubkal 4,167 m (13,671 ft) is the most popular walk in the High Atlas. The views are magnificent, the route is straight forward and, outside winter, usually easily achieved without mountaineering experience with average fitness or above. It is not a particularly steep climb, but it is uphill all the way. During the winter crampons and ice picks may be required as the ascent may be icy.
The mules will accompany you during this exciting trek and take care of your baggage, food and other necessary equipment. An official and experienced mountain guide will take you on a walk through the Berber village of Aremd via the shrine Sidi Chamharouch (2500 m) to reach the mountain hut. There are a couple of nice cascades and pools that make a great place to have a picnic lunch, with shade in the overhang of the rocks. After enjoying the lunch and having a short break, we will continue towards the Refuge (3200 m) which will be your resting point for the night.
A welcome fresh mint tea will be served. In the evening a traditional Moroccan meal will be prepared for the dinner. Hot shower will be available. During summer months there is an option to spend a night in the tent.
The next day we wake up as early as possible to avoid climbing in the sun. We have a breakfast and start climbing around 6:00 am. You should be rewarded by superb views in all directions, especially early on the morning. On the way we will stop for a short break with some refreshments. We expect to reach the top in about 3-4 hours and enjoy the magnificent view. We will have a break of 45 minutes on the summit to enjoy the views.
Afterwards we descend the Toubkal Summit, return back to the hut, where the lunch will be awaiting for us. To get back to Imlil we will follow the same route down the hill. From Imlil we will be taken back to Marrakech.
An excellent short adventure for those who like Munroe bagging but want the warmth and character of Morocco. Whilst a guide (and a mule) isn\'t necessary they make the experience much more fun. They are all local and very professional with the utmost care for your well being and enjoyment (challenge). We booked our 2 day trek to Toubkal Summit through IGoMorocco which was good value; As agents their planning was meticulous and their service was always prompt. Our guide was Hassan, a thoroughly professional and enjoyable person to guide us. transport from our hotel in Marrakech to Imlil was prompt and courteous; our guide was exceptional; and the Toubkal Refuge was as you would expect any hostel to be like. When we arrived back at Imlil late, a taxi back to our hotel in Morocco, the Riad Magellan, was provided with no fuss or extra cost.
